AFL Grand Final Weekend in the Grampians
Everyone loves a long weekend.
Perfect time to visit the Grampians! Why? Mother Nature is at her best with not too hot and still cold enough for that fire at night plus, bonus the flowers have started to spring and everything is still green from winter.
With a 3 day weekend during school holidays - Friday 27th, Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September there is plenty to do in Halls Gap, the heart of the Grampians.
Have you been to "The Gap" named after Charles Hall, Halls Gap is a little town (about 600 population) that lies on the floor between two valleys - the Mt William Range & Wonderland Range.
So what is happening around The Gap over the AFL weekend?
Friday 27th September
Well - before you get here, if travelling from Melbourne stop at one of the cellar doors, such as Montara Wines
in Ararat who are open 12 noon to 5pm or Best's Wines in Great Western - they will be having a museum wine night from 5pm, your chance to taste wines from the past.
Once in the gap swing (no pun intended) past Halls Gap Golf course, if you make it by 11am, join in their 4BBB Multiplayer ($10pp) with prizes plus between 3pm - 6pm, Grampians Helicopters will be hosting joy flights over the Grampians. Fights from $150pp (min 2) for 15 minutes, with longer flights available. Just book on : 0438 981 438 or visit our website for full details.
Saturday 28th Septmeber
Maybe you want to start the day with a walk/hike to justify the afternoon's fun that will soon start. So many walks to pick from that are super easy, like Venus Baths to medium level like Mackenzie Falls or maybe just visit some of the best lookout points, such as Boroka and Reeds lookout. If not interest in walks (or AFL) jump on a wine tour with Grampians Wine Tours they have a morning wine tour, departing at 9:30am and returning at 2:30pm or their very popular afternoon Beer and Wine Blasts starting at 3pm and finishing by 6pm.
Opening at 10am is Pomonal Estate who will have wine, beer, food and 2 large TV's for the big game. Half time they will have a "longest torpedo comp"
Sunday 29th September
Maybe your are felling energetic? (maybe not - then visit Livefast Cafe for brunch), start the day with another walk or explore the region, check out Brambuk cultural centre or even just take a walk along the bike track or....... if you are looking for fun, jump on one of the E-bikes, you can hire them from the centre of town, these things are fun and you are seeing beautiful natural vegetation without any effort - my tip is to take a ride up to Lake Bellfield and back.
If you are up for more fun, jump on the Triple Treat wine tour departing at 12 noon from Halls Gap with Grampians Wine Tours, they will visit 3 vineyards, includes a cheese platter and underground cellar tour, back to Halls Gap by 5pm.
If you are stuck for information or ideas, just drop into the Halls Gap Information centre - right in the centre of town, and conveniently joined to the local brew house of Paper Rock Scissors.
See you in the Gap :)
